Weight is the first thing people feel. A 16pt card is the professional baseline. A 32pt triple-layer card is a statement — and it should be reserved for roles where the card is a closing tool, not a handout.
Soft-touch laminate is the single highest-impact upgrade per dollar. It changes the tactile experience completely and makes solid dark colors look richer.
Spot UV works best against a matte background: the contrast between the dull field and the glossy element is where the effect lives. On a gloss card it disappears.
Painted edges are a small detail with an outsized effect. A navy card with an orange edge communicates deliberate design without a single extra word.
